ActionSA has decided to back the ANC’s effort to unseat Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda and install ANC councilor Dada Morero in his place.
They added that if the ANC in Johannesburg does away with the R200 prepaid charge, it will work with and support them. On Monday, Action SA gave an update on their two-day Special Senate Meeting that was aimed at restoring service delivery in Gauteng’s metros particularly in the City of Johannesburg.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to Micheal Beaumont – ActionSA’s Chairperson who gave an overview of the direction the part has taken.

On making the decision to work closely with the ANC
“As a Senate we had a lengthy discussion and we said whatever difficulty we have in this decision has to come second, to what is right for Johannesburg, because if we put our politics before that we are doing the wrong thing. We have to lead with the politics that we are doing the right thing and that residents will see that, and ultimately reward us in the ballot paper.”
Micheal Beaumont – ActionSA’s Chairperson
On what was negotiated with the ANC
“The first condition and let’s deal with it is that Mayor Gwamanda must go, we will not vote for one item, because he is a compromised mayor, who effectively is being paid for by the residents of Johannesburg. Who continues to toil with a mayor who does not possess the ability to do the job, the evidence is everywhere around us.
“Condition number 2 is the reversal of this R200 surcharge on prepaid users, this is a heartless thing to do, in a city who are suffering in tough economic times.”
Micheal Beaumont – ActionSA’s Chairperson
