If you were a betting man would you place your money on the African National Congress’ (ANC) top 6 nominations?
With President Cyril Ramaphosa leading the presidential nominations by a huge margin, it may go without saying that the leader of the ANC will see out another term.
Of course, this is yet to be decided, and we’ll only know for sure once the ANC’s National Elective Conference takes place next month.
Ramaphosa leads with 2037 branch nominations against Zweli Mkhize’s 916 nominations.
Speaking to Khaya Sithole, Sizwe Dhlomo broke down what the numbers may mean for the ruling party in the upcoming elections.
Did the numbers surprise Sithole? Yes. He expressed that especially those positions that had a three-way split were interesting for him personally.
“The most contested positions are the ones where there’s a three-way split. Those three-ways split are surprising because historically, what the ANC Elective Conferences do is they form themselves into different slates. So there’ll be a slate on the left and right and people then throw their support between a particular candidate.”

Sithole doesn’t believe the numbers will change too drastically at the elections, but says if the circumstances change then winds will likely change too.
With the Phala Phala investigations against the President yet to be concluded, many say they are disappointed that Ramaphosa garnered the most votes.
