Bongani Baloyi has parted ways with ActionSA citing infighting within the political party as one of the reasons for his resignation.
On Monday, 13 March, Baloyi addressed media, detailing a huge rift between himself and President of the party, Herman Mashaba.
ActionSA attested to the tension between Mashaba and Baloyi, saying there were irreconcilable differences between the pair.
In a statement, the party said, “While it is evident that irreconcilable differences exist between Baloyi and ActionSA’s national leadership, these issues relate to differences arising from the running of the province.”
According to ActionSA, Baloyi received an offer from Mashaba to take up the position of National Spokesperson, which was declined.
During his media briefing, Baloyi said that although ActionSA is a fairly new party, there’s no appreciation for political consciousness.
“What I found lacking in ActionSA, particularly as a new party is that there’s no appreciation for political consciousness.
There’s no understanding, and these are majority new people who come from all walks of life, with no experience in politics.
But more importantly there’s no way of getting people to assimilate to a specific culture within ActionSA.”
Baloyi detailed that Mashaba called him into a meeting last week where he was told that there’s a huge issue of mistrust that Mashaba wasn’t able to overlook in relation to Baloyi.
ActionSA has since appointed Funzi Ngobeni as Gauteng Chairperson, following Bongani Baloyi resigning from the party.
