A lift club is an arrangement in which a group of people, usually colleagues or people who work within the same area, commute together by car.
They usually exchange weeks – one driver would use their car for one week and change to another driver the next week.
Lift clubs have become a great way to save money, considering the constant hikes in petrol and diesel prices.
There are now many lift-club apps that match car owners and passengers from the same neighbourhoods, traveling in the same directions, at the same time.
Despite the many advantages of joining lift clubs, conflicts can arise like in most group settings.
Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana explores why many people are now quitting lift clubs, despite the obvious benefits.
Poor communication, being inconsiderate, gossip and poor time management are some of the reasons Feel Good listeners decided to quit their lift club.
Thobile shares her experience:
“When I had to do my personal stuff and had to report to them that I need to be somewhere and they got angry.
“I always had to wait for them in the morning at their pickup point then I end up being late for work.
“When they wanna do groceries and want me to transport them. Then I decided this is not working for me.”
Here are 5 tips for a successful life club.
- Ensure that you pay on time.
- Create a schedule that everyone must stick to.
- Agree on time and location
- Don’t use the lift club for personal errands. Strictly for work.
- Make sure that everyone agrees to the rules of the club
