Drive 959 with Glen recently asked its listeners: Why have you decided not to have children? Is it due to financial reasons, personal freedom, or lifestyle choice?
In South Africa, more women are delaying or choosing not to have children, focusing instead on careers, travel, and personal fulfilment.
Glen Lewis reflected on how many South Africans come from large families.
“I come from a family of seven, and sometimes the thinking behind having children is that when you die you have an heir,” he said.
He also noted that there are successful people who have chosen not to have children, using Dolly Parton as an example. “She and her husband didn’t want kids,” Glen added.
Kgomotso added to the conversation saying, “No one judges anyone who doesn’t want to have kids anymore. Having kids has its ups and downs.”
