Whether you live in the suburbs, the township, or the rural homelands, everyone has different thoughts about their next-door neighbours.
Some see neighbours as comrades who rally together to keep the community safe, while others view them as annoying people best avoided at all costs.
On Drive 959 recently, Glen Lewis revealed that the last time he had meaningful interaction with his neighbours was when he lived with his parents in Soweto.
“I knew them all,” Glen said. “But after I moved to the suburbs, I didn’t know my neighbours. I’d bump into them at the gym.”
He added, “In my hood in Morningside, I only know one. We chat—he’s a pilot—but with the rest, I don’t communicate. I’ve seen some of them at the gym, but I have no relationship with my neighbours.”
Skhumba also shared an unpleasant experience with a neighbour.
“I once had this neighbour who was horrible. The old lady would open her window and stick her nose in our business.
“I had three cars at the time, and when I washed them on a Sunday afternoon, she would call the community leader to complain that I was wasting water. I never made peace with her—until I eventually moved.”
