Finding the right job opportunity can be life-changing. Sadly, fraudsters often take advantage of job seekers by advertising positions that simply don’t exist.
Job scams don’t always look suspicious. In fact, even the most professional-looking adverts can be dangerous traps.
Knowing what to look out for and staying up to date with the latest job scam trends can help you avoid falling victim while searching for work.
Justin Durandt, Managing Director at Key Recruitment, shared some valuable advice to help job seekers steer clear of fraudulent job offers:
“A reputable agency will not use a Gmail or Yahoo email address. You’ll receive communication from a professional company address, and you’ll be able to verify it through their website.”
Durandt also warned that scammers often use poor grammar in their messaging—an easy red flag to spot.
“A legitimate recruitment agency will never ask you to pay a fee. We charge the clients, not the candidates. Even when we conduct background checks, we cover the cost.”
He emphasised that scammers typically prey on people who are desperate for employment, and urged job seekers to stay cautious.
“My advice is to use well-established job portals such as LinkedIn. They’re more secure and easier to verify.”
