Recently launched at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), Kaya 959’s Thabo “Tbose” Mokwele’s TEDx Talks delve deep into the exploration of purpose, urging individuals to aspire for greater achievement and continual growth. Lasting 9 minutes and 20 seconds, this inspirational discourse advocates for the significance of education, family, and community, while challenging the current generation to surpass the accomplishments of its predecessors.
Tbose who holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Marketing, underscores the importance of pausing, reflecting, and embracing the present moment. Influenced by his parents’ emphasis on education, Tbose learned to prioritize learning from an early age. His late father, his primary source of inspiration, imparted the lesson that love devoid of self-sacrifice is dubious. As a father himself, Tbose has adopted these principles, endeavoring to exceed his father’s example. His father’s acknowledgment — “You are the father I wanted to be…” — speaks volumes about his commitment to being a present and attentive parent.
“By striving for improvement and setting higher standards for the next generation, we alleviate the struggles and overcome the challenges faced by our predecessors,” he asserts.
Tbose poses a fundamental question about one’s purpose on earth and the criteria for measuring success, emphasizing the importance of impact and the commitment to surpassing the achievements of previous generations.
His TEDx Talk is undoubtedly worth watching. Watch it here:
