While sorting out her late sister’s estate, an anonymous listener stumbled upon a disturbing secret: her sister had secretly opened a savings account for her child, a child her husband was completely unaware of. Now, she has the responsibility of finding the biological father in order to ensure that the funds are rightfully allocated to the child.
“While I was sorting out my sister’s estate following her passing, I came across a secret bank account that she kept away from her husband. She made me the beneficiary.
“The account was set up as an additional school fees account for our youngest sibling. While going through the paperwork, I realised that the account was not for our youngest sibling but for my sister’s child, whom she had as a teenager and my mom took as her own so that my sister could finish school.
“In order for the payment to be processed, the signature of the biological parent is needed. Her other children are not aware of this, and I am not sure how much the broader family knows. I feel the burden on me, to tell the truth. Should I consult within the family or look for the biological father?”
One listener counsels Anonymous to look for the father of the child. “If she can’t find the father, then they will. just have to investigate within the family,” said the listener.
Another listener cautions that telling the husband could open a can of worms, leading to more problems within her family. “There must be a valid reason why she and her mom kept this a secret.”
