A listener recently contacted The Best T in the City with Tbose to share that her husband’s business had recently taken off after many years of hardships.
They had paid off all their debts and were planning to build their dream home. However, to her surprise, her husband had brought up the idea of taking on two more wives. This was something he had never mentioned during their many years of marriage.
She felt that her husband was suggesting this because their financial situation had improved and they had more disposable income. She felt betrayed, as she had supported her husband through thick and thin. The anonymous listener wanted to know if she was being unreasonable and if there were any blind spots she might be overlooking.
“Hubby and I are high school sweethearts. We grew up together and faced every life trial together. Two years ago, my husband’s business finally took off. Things have been going well. We paid our debts and are currently looking to build our dream house. I should be on cloud nine, as life is finally what we always wanted. However, a month ago, my husband told me he wanted to grow the family and intended to take on two more wives. This left me shocked. He had never once mentioned polygamy.
“When we were struggling, I was the one carrying the family financially. Now we are finally free of financial stress, and he wants more wives. I refused, but he was adamant. I don’t want to divorce him; I waited these many years for us to be here and don’t want to leave it all behind. I made him the man he is, and there is no way I can allow two other women to come in and take what is meant for me and my kids. He told me that I just need to accept it as he wants more kids, and I can’t give him any more due to age. We are both in our 50s.
“Would I be crazy to tell him to have his kids but no wives? I am honestly okay with him having more kids outside, as I know he always wanted more children, but I can’t accept him taking more wives. Am I being irrational? What could be my blind spot?”
