The man used to be her late dad’s friend.

A listener shared that after her father passed away, her mother has been encouraging her to go on a date with her father’s friend.
At first, she assumed it was a joke, but soon realised her mother was serious.
What troubles Anonymous is that the man is already married, and she is beginning to wonder if her mother has an agenda behind this.
“My father passed away earlier this year, and one of his friends, who is in the same business, has been helping my mom. Since early August, Mom has been telling me that this man has been asking about me and even saying he wants to take me out so I can ‘de-stress.’
“At first, I ignored it, but last week Mom told me that this uncle suggested we meet on a Saturday. I agreed, assuming she would be coming along, but on the day, she told me she wouldn’t be part of the lunch. I immediately said I wasn’t going either because I wasn’t comfortable.
“Mom got angry, saying I act like I’m better than others. “In life, sometimes you do what you have to do.” Her reaction really shocked me and made me start questioning things. My mom is 15 years younger than my dad, and I remember an argument years ago where my aunt accused her of being a homewrecker who took someone else’s husband. Now, after seeing how upset she was when I refused, I can’t help but wonder if she’s pushing some agenda.
“What makes it worse is that Dad’s friend is married – and Mom knows his wife well. I love my mother, but this whole situation has left me uneasy. Could she really be trying to set me up with this old man? Or am I reading too much into it? What could be my blind spot here?”
