A worried listener has reached out to share her concerns about her husband, who has been unemployed for years and shows no motivation to find a job. To make matters worse, he receives a monthly allowance from her mother. On top of that, he spends his time drinking with friends and watching TV while she takes care of everything at home.
The listener has turned to The Best T in the City with Tbose for advice and support. She is hoping to hear from others who may have gone through a similar situation and can offer insight into any blind spots she may be overlooking.
“Uncle T, my husband, has not been working for years now. His mother gives him an allowance. When he lost his job, my biggest prayer was that I continue to be a good wife and that being the breadwinner doesn’t change me. I have been a good wife; however, my husband has just not done the same.
“He doesn’t do anything around the house; I always have to clean, cook, and help the kids with homework. Whenever I get home, he is either drinking with friends or watching TV. I believe my husband could have gotten another job by now, but he is too comfortable because his mother gives him a monthly allowance, and when he needs more money, she just gives it to him.
“I have tried talking to my mother-in-law about encouraging him to find work and helping me around the house, but to no avail. I am slowly falling out of love with my husband, and I am ready to kick him out. Is there a way I can deal with this without going the divorce route?”
