A listener recently shared her concerns about her domestic helper, who has been bringing her teenage daughter along when she comes to clean.
The helper explained that her daughter struggles to stay home alone since her husband passed away.
However, the listener has noticed that her own son and the helper’s daughter have developed a strong bond, leading her to wonder if the helper had planned to set them up all along.
Reaching out to The Best T in the City, she asked, “Am I overreacting, or do I have good reason to be concerned?”
“Uncle T, Ausi, who helps me at home, has been coming to my place to clean with her 17-year-old daughter. Ausi comes to my house to clean only on weekends, as she works at other homes during the week.
“When I asked her why she came with her daughter, she explained that since her husband’s death last September, her daughter has been struggling, and so she does not want to leave her alone at home. I understood where she came from, but now, the daughter and my 16-year-old son have grown close. They chill, eat, and even sometimes go to the mall.
“On Valentine’s Day, my son even got her some gifts to cheer her up. Now, I know my son is very kind and an empath, so cheering people up is his thing, but I can’t help but wonder if this was Ausi’s plan to get her daughter and my son together.
“She seems too excited about their “friendship” and always says they look good together. I have no issues with Ausi’s daughter, but I can’t help wondering if this isn’t some plot on her part to play matchmaker with my son. Am I overreading this? Should I let the kids be? What could be my blind spot?”
