A pastor who is well respected in his community has just found out that his son, whom he was grooming to take over from him, has been scamming people. This has made him question his leadership skills, seeing that he can’t even get his house in order. The pastor is seriously considering stepping down from his duties. Is he missing any blind spots?
“I am a priest, and as you can imagine, I have a lot of people who look up to me. Two months ago, I found out that my son, whom I have been grooming to take over from me is a scammer. I have always known that he runs his own business, but now it has come to light that he takes people’s money in the name of investing it but when it comes to paying, he comes up with all kinds of excuses. “I found out through one of my congregants, who opened up to me about what my son has been up to. I confronted my son about this, and he came clean about everything.
“Here’s my issue, I’m thinking of retiring in the face of all of this chaos. But many say, ‘I am not the one who scammed people, so, therefore, I should not have to suffer for my son’s sins.’ This is a branch from my tree. How do I lead people when I can’t lead my own son? I am even thinking of announcing my decision this Sunday. Is this premature?” He asked.
Kaya 959’s Traffic Reporter Julliet Jospeh, thinks this is a premature decision as the pastor doesn’t have to answer to anyone. “I feel like if he is to withdraw from the congregation, it should be like a mini-sabbatical to help his kid through whatever it is that he’s going through,” she said.
A listener counsels the pastor to pray about what to do next.
“You can give your son life, but you cannot live it on his behalf. That’s what my mom always says. It is not his fault that his son is doing what he is doing. All he can do now that he is aware is sit the son down and counsel him. Don’t just throw in the towel like that. Pray about it,” the caller said.
