A listener recently shared a personal experience involving her stepson’s medical emergency.
After he was rushed to hospital following a serious accident, she went to check on him only to find her husband cosily holding his ex-wife in his arms.
While she acknowledges that they were both there to support their son, the sight made her feel uncomfortable. When she brought it up with her husband, he dismissed her concerns, saying it wasn’t a big deal.
Reaching out to The Best T in the City with Tbose, the listener wonders whether she is justified in feeling upset, or if there are blind spots she might be missing.
“Last week, we received a call that my stepson had a serious fall and was rushed to the hospital. My husband went straight there and later told me our son would need surgery.
“That afternoon, I decided to bring my husband some food. When I arrived at the hospital, I found him holding his ex-wife in his arms. I was furious-especially since, when they saw me, neither of them seemed to think anything was amiss.
“I understand she was shocked and anxious about the operation and needed comfort, but why didn’t she call her current husband instead? When my husband came home that evening, he brushed it off. He said it was simply two parents comforting each other in a crisis, and that I was being insecure.
“He reminded me that, although they’ve both moved on, their son always comes first. I get that, but I can’t shake the image of them like that. Should I have been more understanding? I know they have a strong co-parenting relationship, but I feel they overstepped. Or were they simply caught up in their worry? What might be my blind spot here?’
