This week on 959 Breakfast with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka we are decoding renowned South African actress and businesswoman Sonia Mbele.
Sonia won many hearts playing the character Ntombi Dhlomo when Generations.
Opening up about being married when she was still on Generations, Sonia says she comprised herself in every way.
“You know when something is not working and you still want to make it work in any way. I remember being on the biggest show in the country and not being able to watch it because it made people around me uncomfortable. It became deeper.”
Because her job made a certain person in her life uncomfortable, she left the show and was jobless.
Another reason for leaving Generations was the unfair payment and treatment that saw the entire cast get fired many years ago.
“It was a couple of factors. For me, it became a question of letting me leave anyway because I could see what happened with the exodus. I sensed it.”
On picking up the pieces and starting again
Like a phoenix, Sonia says she knew she’d rise again.
“I’m passionate led – the passion to be a businesswoman, multiple streams of income, raising my children – just creating an empire. That is something you can never lose sight of.
“I want to be one of the biggest producers in the country.”
