Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend BRICS Summit virtually.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in the forthcoming summit remotely, according to the BRICS “Sherpa” from South Africa, Anil Sooklal, who made the announcement on Thursday.
As a result of their suspected involvement in the war crime of the forcible removal and transfer of children from Ukraine to Russia, Putin, and Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova were issued arrest warrants by the judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in March.
Following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement that Putin won’t be attending the BRICS Summit “by mutual agreement,” Sergei Lavrov of Russia will serve as the delegation’s head.

The three-day programme of the 15th BRICS Summit in South Africa will take place from 22 to 24 August 2023 at the Sandton Convention Centre.
“But he will attend the summit virtually. He will be involved in all of the sessions that the leaders are partaking in the traditional summit of BRICS leaders,”
“Although Minister Lavrov will be physically present, President Putin will participate virtually,” said Sooklal
Even though BRICS is made up of a group of emerging markets — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, there is a total of 22 countries have formally approached BRICS nations to become members of the group.
BRICS is said to soon deliberate on the issue of expansion.
