The Vodacom Group is reportedly planning to cut jobs in South Africa to help reduce costs. This is according to reports from various publications.
It is anticipated that about 80 jobs will be lost at the telecommunications provider.
Vodacom currently employs well over 5000 South Africans in the country.
It is not certain at which level of seniority; however, it is said that senior management will also be affected.
“We routinely ensure that our business operations are fit for purpose as we transition from a telco to a leading technology company,” a spokesman for Vodacom was quoted by Business Live. “Additionally, Vodacom South Africa continues to proactively implement various cost reduction measures to ensure sustainable operations and maintain financial resilience.”
In addition to this, there could be 4,000 jobs lost in the mining industry this year. This is also another cost factor.
