The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has raised the idea of handing out quick-fire fines to the parents of minors caught committing vandalism as part of the government’s response to the ongoing unrest in Paris.
This sparked the question on 959 Breakfast: “Who should bear the brunt of a child’s behaviour between the child and their parent?”
In addition, Macron said the French government should consider restricting or completely cutting off social media platforms if things get out of hand in the country.
Macron’s comments come after Ministers in the country blamed young people for using platforms such as TikTok to organize and encourage riots and violence following the shooting of a teenager during a police traffic stop in Paris last week.
“We need to think about how young people use social networks. When things get out of hand, we may have to regulate them or cut them off, said the French President. “Above all, we shouldn’t do this in the heat of the moment, and I’m pleased we didn’t have to.”
