This week on 959 Breakfast with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka we are decoding DJ Zinhle.
Zinhle is a pioneering DJ who’s held the title for Africa’s best DJ for more than three years in a row.
Speaking about the bullying she receives on social media, the mother of two says she’s learned to remove herself from things that don’t necessarily need her.
“There is also a level that I had to remove myself from not allowing myself to be a victim. Also realising that my voice has an influence on a lot of people.”
DJ Zinhle notes because of popularity, she has the responsibility to handle things in the right way.
Prayer has helped her navigate life as one of the most famous faces in Mzansi.
“I am doing a lot of things that are bigger than DJ Zinhle,” she says.
“With HairMajesty, Era By DJ Zinhle, and DJ Zinhle as a brand. I’m responsible for families. There are jobs on the line so the way I respond no longer just affects me.”
She does note that not doing enough research has hurt her business somewhat.
“Not doing enough research can really strain your business. I come from just figuring things out so you learn as you go. Investing in the wrong people. I’m at a phase where I’m okay with letting go of people who are not worth the investment.”
Her relationship with Pearl Thusi
DJ Zinhle’s friendship with Pearl Thusi has been a topic of discussion as the two are rumoured to have fallen out.
She tells Kaya 959 that they are on good terms.
“We have a sisterhood and in every sisterhood there are seasons. We love each other dearly. We spoke often.”
