Two cities in Brazil have ranked in the Top 2 on a list of sexually adventurous cities in the world.
São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are the cities which have the most number of hotel stays for a night and have the most number of sex events than any other city in the world.
A new study reveals that these two cities also have the highest number of sex shops and rank among the top cities where the average number of sexual partners is high.
São Paulo has a sexiness score of 100%, while Rio comes in with a score of 97.07%.
Meanwhile, Auckland in New Zealand took the record for the highest number of sexual partners, with the average being 13.2.
The sexually adventurous cities in the world study was done by Emisil and examined 50 cities worldwide to determine the Top 10 sexually adventurous cities.
Various factors contributed to the study’s results, including perception of the most sexually vibrant cities and its’ people’s erotic appeal.

São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro also recorded the most frequent sexual activity per week, with the average number of times people engage in sexual activity being 1.5 times a week.
A spokesperson from Emisil commented on the study: “Cities with open attitudes towards sex work and diverse adult entertainment options are not just about indulgence—they reflect deeper societal values around freedom, personal expression, and the normalization of sexual diversity. This isn’t just about nightlife; it’s about how societies prioritize and facilitate open, honest conversations about sexuality, which can foster a more inclusive and accepting community culture.”
The study evaluated cities across 6 key factors including:
- the number of sex shops
- the average number of sexual partners among residents
- the average frequency of sexual activity per week
- the number of strip clubs
- the frequency of sex-related events (such as adult-themed parties and festivals)
- the availability of hotels catering to short stays as listed on Booking.com
- Additionally, the legal status of sex work was considered, categorized as fully legal, partially legal or not legal.
Each city’s score was then calculated and scaled to a range of 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating a strong overall sexually adventurous appeal.
