Students allege misappropriation of NSFAS funds by Westcol
Students at Westcol, a Technical and Vocational Education and Training College in Randfontein are facing another night on the streets after being kicked out by landlords.
NSFAS allowances for accommodation were not paid to the landlords by the college thus the landlords have evicted the students.The students accuse the college of pocketing the NSFAS funds allocated for accommodation.
Westcol Students have told KayaFM News that the college is only paying a portion of their NSFAS accommodation allocation to landlords, while they are also cutting their money for groceries and transport.
They want Higher Education Minister Naledi Pandor to intervene in the standoff between themselves and the college over non-payment of their NSFAS accommodation fees and allowances.
The Technical and Vocational Education and Training College is accused of pocketing the NSFAS funds allocated to students for accommodation, grocery and transport.This has resulted in students being evicted by landlords, while others cannot buy monthly groceries or pay transport to attend lectures.
When Kaya 959 News visited the campus in Randfontein today it found frustrated students who contemplating a campus-wide boycott of classes.
