2020 saw network providers grapple with calls for data price cuts in the face of a pandemic-driven demand for connectivity and digital customer service.
Kaya Bizz with Gugulethu Mfuphi spoke to Melanie Malherbe, the Managing Director of BrandsEye where they looked at mobile networks from the perspective of consumers.
BrandEye’s latest Telco Sentiment Index tracked over two million social media posts about Cell C, MTN, rain, Telkom, and Vodacom throughout the year. Conducted in partnership with Deloitte Africa, found that some telcos received significantly more negativity than others.

“It’s actually the second year we’ve actually done this. We look at social media, for this year we looked at the period from January, and just over 2 million mentions on social media on just what people are saying every day. It’s not a survey we just look at what people say on the platform. We gather information and run it through a mix of algorithms and actual human beings.”
