Tributes are pouring in for Karabo ‘Miss Ducasse’ Mokanyane. The DJ passed away suddenly this week.
Miss Ducasse’s family revealed her cause of death in a statement they shared on Thursday, December 30.
“Earlier on Wednesday (29 December) our sister Karabo Mokanyane, fondly known by her stage name DJ Ducasse, passed away after complications related to an abdominal surgery,” the statement read.
The family says they are trying to come to terms with the sudden loss. Despite the pain, Miss Ducasse’s family has been comforted by the “outpouring of love” from her friends and fans.
“The past 24 hours have demonstrated the love and respect Karabo enjoyed from her peers and, most importantly, her fan base. For this, we are indebted to the industry that she loved so dearly.”
Several days before her death, Miss Ducasse took to Twitter to reveal that she had a near-death experience.
“To think I almost died…That is trauma beyond anything. No one should experience this. I’m still not well not sure how long for but damn I want to live. Every day I ask God for life and to live. Tired of needles and everything else,” she tweeted.

Miss Ducasse’s friends send their condolences
Boity Thulo joined scores of people in sending their condolences to Miss Ducasse’s family.
“Haai, guys. Wow. May you rest in eternal peace, Karabo. May it be a serene, blissful journey back home, angel,” she tweeted.

Enhle Mbali called Miss Ducasse her “prayer warrior” in a lengthy tribute she shared on Instagram.
“All we wanted to do is ukubangena next summer mama… I’ll carry you in my spirit. Chasing summer with every daring chance I get. Fight for what’s right, no matter who I lose in my life. Help always where I can. All in your beautiful spirit’s name.
“It is quite evident heaven could not wait for you. God’s blessed to have you as his child in his eternal home. It’s gonna be one big party in heaven one day friend,” she wrote.
Carol Bouwer says she had holiday plans with Miss Ducasse before COVID-19 put the brakes on their trip.
“In my mind we would have so many trips around the world in the future that focusing on moments shared privately at home with our loved ones seemed to suffice. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for the prayers Karabo and for speaking life unto your cherished ones,” the businesswoman wrote.
Carol promised to live life to the fullest.
“We promise to swim the bluest waters for you and to fulfill some of the insane dreams shared.”
