The South African Medical Association (SAMA) has confirmed that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine arrives in South Africa today.
Rollout of the vaccine begins tomorrow in various hospitals and clinics that have already been selected to receive the doses.
Two-thirds of the vaccine will go to the public sector while one-third will go to the frontline workers in the private sector.
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine has shown 57% efficacy in preventing severe effects of the virus and can also help protect against hospitalization and death.
SAMA is expected to handle the vaccination process.
