A police reservist and her alleged boyfriend were gunned down in Soweto before the gunman took his own life.
According to reports, Thembani Jele was travelling in Diepkloof just after 5pm when her ex-lover, a Soweto taxi owner approached them and fired several shots.
Police found over 15 empty cartridges at the scene.
The couple, who were travelling in a yellow Ford Mustang, died at the scene. Bystanders took pictures and recorded a video of the couple lying dead in the car.
Police declined to confirm the relationship between the deceased. Police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe said police are investigating further.
She said Gauteng police were looking into two cases of murder and an inquest.
Mathe said Jele was attached to the Diepkloof Visible Policing Unit as a reservist constable.
“The person who is believed to be a suspect in this case allegedly committed suicide, he was found to have shot himself at his place of residence in Orlando East,” Mathe said.
Shoba continues bail attempt
Meanwhile, Ntuthuko Shoba, the man accused of orchestrating Tshegofatso Pule’s murder is hopeful that he will be granted bail next week.
Shoba appeared in the South Gauteng High Court. This is his third bail application. He was previously denied bail in the Roodeport Magistrate’s Court earlier this year.
The State has not budged in its call to oppose Shoba’s bail.
Shoba allegedly hired and paid a hitman to murder Pule, who was pregnant at the time of her death.
At a previous appearance, the court heard how Pule said she knew Shoba did not want the baby but she could not live with herself if she aborted the baby. Pule then apologised to Shoba for ruining his life.
Pule’s body was found hanged from a tree near Florida Lake. She was stabbed multiple times. The hitman Muzikayise Malephane has since turned state witness.
