Ntombizikhona Valela is a historian and writer. Born and raised in King Williams Town (eQonce), Valela completed her Master of Arts in History at Rhodes University. Her writing has featured in various publications including New Frame, Mail and Guardian and Daily Maverick, and on a range of topics in history and popular culture.
This masterclass talks about the importance of multi-pronged methodologies in writing about history, Jazz and ‘overlooked histories’. This is with the knowledge that some histories have been criminally reduced to mere footnotes, an example that comes to mind is the story of Sathima Benjamin.
