An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the death of Anele Tembe, fiancé of South African rapper, AKA.
22-year-old Tembe fell to her death in Cape Town yesterday.
Netcare 911 media liaison, Shawn Herbst, said shortly after 8am yesterday morning, Netcare 911 responded to a fall outside a hotel in the Cape Town City centre.
“Reports from the scene indicate that a 22-year-old female had allegedly jumped from the tenth floor landing on the road below. Medics assessed the patient who had sustained critical injuries and was treated on scene by an advanced life support paramedic. While stabilising the patient her condition rapidly deteriorated and she was sadly declared deceased on the scene,” Herbst said.
According to a police spokesperson, Cape Town Central police are investigating an inquest case after an incident at a hotel on the corners of Loop and Bloem Street, Cape Town CBD where the body of a 22-year-old woman was found deceased. The spokesperson added that experts were looking for clues at the hotel.
AKA’s fiancé Anele Tembe allegedly jumps to her death
Tembe’s death was confirmed in a joint statement by both her and AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes’s families.
“It is with the deepest regret that we, the Tembe and Forbes families confirm the untimely passing of our beloved fiancé, daughter, sister and daughter-in-law, Anele Tembe (22). Anele tragically passed on in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 11 April 2021,” the statement read.
“We are still in shock and are dealing with our emotions, as she was an exceptional and gifted young woman, with so much life ahead of her. She had a sweet nature about her and was always nurturing to those around her. Her fiancé, Kiernan Forbes, is currently inconsolable and is surrounded by family and closest friends. At this hour of our grief, we humbly request that our families be given privacy and time to heal,” the statement read.
AKA and Tembe got engaged in February. He shared a pic of a diamond ring on Tembe’s finger, adding that Tembe said “Yes” when he proposed.
The “Fela in Versace” hitmaker later shared the big news on Instagram with a few photographs of himself standing alongside a group of men, thought to be his lobola delegation.
The couple have been dating for just over one year.
Rumours of their relationship began circulating around May last year however, Tembe remained private on social media.
They are said to have begun dating following AKA’s break up with Ntombezinhle Jiyane, also known as DJ Zinhle. AKA and Zinhle have a daughter together. AKA also dated SA media personality and businesswoman, Bonang Matheba.
Meanwhile, condolences continue to pour in on social media following confirmation of Tembe’s death.
