The National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate (ID) has been granted an order to freeze assets of Gupta associate Iqbal Sharma and his company Nulane Investments.
The order also includes Islandsite Investments which belongs to brothers Atul and Rajesh Gupta and their wives
A High Court has appointed a curator to take control of and preserve the assets pending the outcome of criminal charges for fraud and money laundering
Those affected face criminal charges related to a contract concluded between Nulane and the Free State Department of Agriculture in 2011
It relates to potential farming projects in the Free State to be funded under ‘Mohoma Mobung’, a provincial initiative for rural upliftment and job creation.
Investigating Directorate Spokesperson Sindisiwe Seboka says the order also pertains to property abroad.

NPA approaches Interpol for help
Meanwhile, the NPA has approached Interpol for assistance in arresting Atul and Rajesh Gupta.
Their wives also have arrest warrants. The family is facing fraud and money laundering charges.
The brothers were sanctioned by the US government in 2019 over the corruption charges.
According to the BBC, the US Treasury also imposed sanctions on SA businessman Salim Essa.
