We recently drove the first ever BMW X2 through Cape Town’s scenic roads.
The manufacturer is targeting the unconventional, unique and free-spirited buyers looking for a premium crossover that offers quality fit and finish with the new X2. The striking coupe-like design is complemented by a flowing roofline, slim window graphic, big wheels (19inch standard, 20inch optional) whilst not deviating from BMW design DNA.
This means the kidney grille flanked by twin headlights with LED daytime lights (full LED headlights optional) dominates the front with fog lights placed on the outer edges of the front bumper just above side air intakes. The BMW badge placed on the C pillar is a unique and eye-catching design touch. The rear gets L shaped LED taillights, twin big bore exhausts and a rear spoiler for a sporty look. Two design variants are offered: An M Sport and an M Sport X with varying wheel designs
The interior retains the functional layout of the X1 model meaning a well laid out cabin, driver-focused dash with quality fit and finish. Contrasting decorative stitching is mixed with leather and soft textures for a quality feel. The choice of trim finishers, including High-gloss Black, Aluminium and matt Oak Grain variants, further underlines the high-quality credentials of the BMW X2. Options like the panoramic roof, LED interior lighting enhances the ambience, especially at night.
The Five-seater cabin has multiple stowage spaces around the cabin with a raised seating position in line with X models. A 6.5 inch Business Navigation infotainment screen comes standard with the 8.8 inch Touch Control Display offered as an option. BMW Connected drive, wireless charging, Navigation, Apple CarPlay, i-Drive control, USB/Radio/Bluetooth connectivity comes standard in all models whilst the Heads up Display is offered as an option. The boot has a capacity of 470 litres with folding rear seats increasing that space. ISOFIX connectors are on all seats for easy placing of child seats. Varying interior trim options allow buyers to tailor-make their X2 to suit their individual tastes.
The X2 comes with three engines: Two petrol and one diesel models all featuring TwinPower Turbo technology with varying power levels. The 18i model features a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine whilst the rest of the models feature 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel motors.
