A Gauteng teacher accused of raping a grade 10 pupil has appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.
He allegedly raped the pupil at Umqhele Secondary School in Ivory Park on Friday, 14 May 2021.
Police launched a manhunt for the 38-year-old after a case was opened on Saturday.
Gauteng’s MEC Panyazi Lesufi called on police to use all resources available to track him down.
The teacher reportedly handed himself over to the police on Wednesday.

Disciplinary action against teacher
Lesufi revealed on Twitter that an education rep has delivered the teacher’s resignation to Gauteng Education’s offices.
The MEC said in a statement released on Tuesday that the department had already started a disciplinary process against the perpetrator.
“We will immediately report him to all regulatory bodies…
“As the GDE, we will never tolerate nor condone any sexual relations or harassment of learners by educators and any of our officials. We will never allow educators or officials to abuse the privilege, given to us by millions of parents across the province.”
Psycho-social support has been provided to the 16-year-old learner.
The teacher is due back in court on May 27 for a bail application.
The department will continue to support the victim.
“We can only imagine the anger and disappointment the family of the learner is going through,” Lesufi said in a statement.
“Any educator or official who preys on learners has no place in the education system,” said MEC @Lesufi at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court where the 38-year old educator accused of raping a 16-year old Grade 10 learner at Umqhele Secondary school made his first court appearance. pic.twitter.com/BIW0l3SElA
