A policeman was shot dead and two more wounded in separate incidents in Gauteng this week.
In the first incident, an Orlando SAPS FCS officer was robbed by three people in Freedom Park just after midnight on Tuesday. The suspects shot him multiple times
“The member sadly succumbed to his injuries on the scene. A case of murder has been opened and no arrests have been made as yet,” says SAPS spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe.
She says earlier that same day, two officers were shot while patrolling in Nyala, Ext 6 Akasia. The officers are from the Pretoria Public Order Policing unit.
“The area was engulfed by protests during the day due to evictions that were taking place. Both members were taken to a local hospital where they are receiving further medical treatment,” she says.

Mathe adds that the two front tyres of the police nyala were damaged as a result of the shooting.
A case of attempted murder and malicious damage to property have been registered. No arrests have been made thus far.
Mathe says Gauteng SAPS have since launched the 72-hour activation plan, hoping to apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
Communities who may have information on both incidents are encouraged to call the Crime Stop Hotline Number on 086 00 10111 or download the MySaps App on any android or smartphone.
“Police are reminding communities that they remain the eyes and ears of all law enforcement agencies and are pivotal to the reduction of crimes especially those that are serious and violent in nature,” Mathe concludes.
