Former SABC TV news anchor, Eben Jansen is running for Mayor of Cape Town with the Dagga Party, known as Iqela Lentsango.
The recently divorced father of four announced his candidacy 3 days ago, and is hopeful he will become mayor.
He currently has a cannabis farm in his hometown Kimberley and exports the medicinal plant to Europe.
The Dagga Party was founded in 2009 by Jeremy Acton who remains the leader. Eben Jansen will be permanently relocating to Cape Town to follow through with his plans of changing the narrative around cannabis.
“Through this platform with the Dagga Party, I will drive home the story of cannabis and what it really is. It’s a story of sacred herbs and ancient knowledge. It’s a story of Africa and oppression,” he shared with his 937 followers.
Eben is open about his personal use of medicinal cannabis, sharing the positive impact it has had on his mental health.
The Dagga Party’s position is that cannabis users should have the same rights as people who use tobacco and alcohol.
