Thato Mbha, commonly known as TT Mbha is a young South African businessman, in the real estate field. He was recently a guest host on #InfluentialFridays and here we get to know the man behind the name a little more.

How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
I’ve always known from a young age that I would end up in real estate. When I was as young as 12, I enjoyed walking around the township admiring different houses, especially corner houses.
To what do you attribute your success?
I attribute my success to being raised in a family whose values are based around respect for all people, irrespective of their social standing.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
Always write your vision down and read it out loud every single day. There’s so much power in writing and speaking your vision.
If you wanted to create an environment where motivation can thrive, what’s the first thing you would do?
I would always encourage a culture of honest behaviour. For example if you are feeling down that day, let everyone around you know so that they can understand your state of being at that time.
How do you show others that you believe in them?
I invest my time by sharing my experiences with them so that they don’t have to make the same mistakes I made.
Who has influenced you the most?
My late grandfather, Sipho Mbha, whom I was named after. I am still to meet a strict yet charismatic family man who is respected by all.
What would you do differently if given the opportunity?
I would have studied real estate immediately after matriculating.
When is breaking the rules okay?
When it doesn’t harm anyone in the value chain called life.
What does working ‘on’ your business mean to you?
It means you understand what makes your business tick and what makes it stagnant #KnowYourNumbers
What does empowerment mean to you?
It means giving equal opportunity to those that have the skills, capacity and passion but not the funds.
What values are you committed to?
God, family then business
What do you do to live a balanced life?
I play golf and waterpolo to relax
What are 5 key books you feel everyone should read, and why?
I will choose one only: “A Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren. If you don’t know your life’s purpose then what are you living for?
What dreams and goals inspired you to succeed?
My dream of being the best in whatever I do keeps me hungry to constantly be in pursuit of excellence if I fail at achieving perfection.
