A man has been arrested and charged with murdering his 10-month-old baby boy. The 27-year-old allegedly beat the infant after he cried uncontrollably.
Gqeberha police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said on Tuesday the baby and his mother were at the suspect’s home in Bethelsdorp.
“While at the house, it is alleged that the child cried continuously and the father could no longer tolerate it. The mother explained that the child may have cramps.
“The father reportedly assaulted the child. He then chased the mother away and kept the child with him,” Naidu said.
She said at around 6am on Wednesday morning, the mother went back to the man’s house and found the child dead on the bed.
Naidu said she carried the dead baby back to her house and alerted the police.

Meanwhile, a 52-year-old father from KwaZulu-Natal has been arrested for rape. The man is accused of sexually grooming his now 21-year-old daughter for the last nine years.
Bulwer police arrested the man at his workplace on Wednesday.
It is alleged that the girl was just 12 when the alleged sexual relationship began.
KZN MEC for Social Development Nonhlanhla Khoza has assigned a team of social workers to speak to the woman who opened a case against her father.
“She has been removed to a safe shelter as the social workers started providing her with psycho-social support,” Khoza said.
She said South Africa was faced by a prevalence of cases of children being raped by their fathers, stepfathers and uncles, and every member of society had to play their role in exposing such crimes.
The department would continue to provide psycho-social support to the victim and her siblings.
