Speaking exclusively to Kaya 959, Hugh Masebenza’s sister has confirmed that the ‘Savanna Guy’ is getting the help he needs.
To clear the rumours circulating on social media, Masebenza’s younger sister said that her brother is in fact not homeless.
This after Kaya 959 published the story that the former actor was spotted on the streets.
Due to concerns about his safety, she chose not to disclose his actual whereabouts to the public, but Kaya 959 does have details about Masebenza’s current location.
Hugh’s sister calls on the public to stop circulating images of him that portray the narrative, “he is destitute”.
“My brother is not on the streets, he has a roof over his head and is getting the help he needs.”
According to his sister, rumours of the ‘Savanna Guy’ falling on hard times pops up every few months.
“Over the past few years, a post claiming that a production company is trying locate my brother, pops up on social media. It is always the same image that is used.”
The post says that a director wishes to find the actor, making it sound like he wants to trace Masebenza to cast him. These posts about her brother first started in 2015.
“To anyone who knows where my brother is, please do not disclose this on any social media platforms,” his sister pleads.
Kaya 959 tried calling the number listed on the post to no avail.
Masebenza’s sister stresses that her brother isn’t on drugs or alcohol and has no history of substance abuse.
She also says rumours that her brother took a fall in life because of witchcraft are hurtful and insulting to their family.
“It’s a private matter and nothing as nefarious as people are making it out to be. He’s not on drugs and isn’t abusing any substances,” she shared.
His sister did also share that Masebenza is working and keeps himself busy. She remembers admiring her brother for the work he did as an actor and wants to clear his name.
“He was and still is so talented, both musically and as an actor. We are hopeful, that with the help he is receiving, he can get back to doing what he loves doing once again.”
Taking to social media in defence of his uncle, Rifuwo Masebenza said, “The guy is healthy and fine, he had a movie shoot which required him to look like he does in the second image. I’m sharing this to alert everyone this is all lies!”
However, Masebenza’s sister says that the relative who responded is underage and does not speak on behalf of the family.
His sister said the family is working together to get her brother the help he needs.
