In the early hours of 23rd February 2022, South Africans were informed about the tragic passing of rapper Riky Rick.
Struggling with the loss of his friend, South African artist Youngsta CPT has released a new song honoring the life and legacy of the late Riky Rick.
The song titled Dear Rikhado, Love Riyadh is a love letter to the legacy of Riky Rick and places emphasis on the friendship that he has garnered with the late rapper.
In an Instagram post Youngsta CPT announced the release of this new song, he also further expressed that he never spoke about Riky’s passing because every interaction they had was personal.
“I never spoke about Ricky’s passing because most of our encounters were personal, not always public. I wasn’t his closest friend nor did we know each other for a lifetime but over the years there was a friendship built”, Youngsta shares.
He continues by saying that although this song is not enough to explain every contribution Riky has made to the culture and hip hop industry, he wanted to express himself and “say his piece” because he is “hurting”.
“This won’t be enough to explain everything he’s done for us and everyone he influenced in SA hip hop but just like them I’m hurting inside & wanted to say my piece to be a little bit more at peace”.
The song opens up with an intro from Riky posing a question to Youngsta CPT, “A 100 years from now we will all be gone, all of this you know will disappear, will disintegrate, will burn down, it will all freeze over. When that time comes, what do you want people to remember about Youngsta CPT?”
An emotional Youngsta breathes heavily and bares his heart on this track paying homage to Riky.
