Wheelchair bound DJ Kabila has accused private airline, CemAir of discrimination for charging disabled passengers an additional fee for a service that should be free.
Taking to his social media, the artist shared his frustration at being told he would need to pay an addition R564 for a passenger aid unit (PAU).
A PAU is a device which assists wheelchair bound passengers to board the flight and is a service that is generally made available from check-in to boarding, and then again upon landing to the arrival area.
“This is daylight robbery, expecting me to pay for a service, a PAU because I’m a disabled person in a wheelchair. There’s nothing on their website to notify that you have to pay separately for PAU.
Now I’m told I have to pay R564 for a service that is free on all flights. This is wrong. You don’t pay for PAU.”
DJ Kabila shared his experience while trying to board a flight on Tuesday, 11 October.
His post received a response from DJ Black Coffee who retweeted the artist’s video post with the caption, “this can’t be it.”
CemAir has not responded to the claims and attempts to contact the airline went unanswered.
DJ Kabila has been wheelchair bound since 1999 after a car accident left him paralyzed. He is an advocate for disabled rights and says he will continue to carry the conversation forward until basic rights are achieved.
For merefact of being disabled you need to pay more for a service that is free on all air flights @FlyCemAir ,this is daytime robbery and i wont stop fighting till our voice is being listened pic.twitter.com/R1ac8VzT63
