Like sands through the hourglass, so too did South Africa’s Tyla make time stand still at this year’s Met Gala.
The Water hitmaker turned to French fashion house Balmain to bring her vision of “Lady Time” to life, playing on this year’s theme Garden of Time with effortless ease.
Not only did the youngest Grammy award-winner look golden with shimmering sand dusted all over her, she also clutched an hourglass with sand to nail her look with perfection.
Tyla’s dress looked like it had been made entirely of sand, giving her an almost sand sculpture-esque look.
Moulded to fit her body, the dress was too stiff for the 22-year old to move freely in and she needed to be carried up the steps of the Met Gala.
Speaking to Vogue, Tyla said she wanted to go with something completely different and creative because it was her first Met Gala.
“I’m wearing sand basically, the sands of time. We really wanted something out of the box this year, I worked with Balmain.
It’s my first time at the Met and I’m so excited to be here.”
