South African rapper Gigi LaMayne has lost one of her close friends.
On Wednesday morning Gigi woke up to the news that her friend from University died by suicide on Tuesday night.
“A motivational speaker and writer. It doesn’t make sense,” she wrote.
Gigi says that the new pandemic is suicide… “a silent genocide lurking in the struggles of the youth.”
She added: “Slowly emerging … the fire is becoming uncontrollable.”

In 2019, Gigi sent out a tweet that sent chills down many people’s spines. Following the tweet, which has since been deleted, her close friend Rashid Kay revealed that the rapper was in hospital and stable.
Gigi LaMayne, who’s battled with depression since childhood, took an overdose of pills. Her cousin and assistant Nicole Nleya found Gigi and rushed her to the hospital.
Since her suicide attempt, the rapper has been an advocate for mental health.
