The confessional booth of a historic church in Lucerne, Switzerland, has been converted into a high-tech interface that allows guests to speak with an artificial intelligence Jesus in 100 different languages.
In August 2024, the “Deus in Machina” installation was unveiled as a component of a continuing partnership with a nearby university research lab that specializes in immersive reality.
The AI, iss trained in the New Testament and religious texts, to receive spiritual advice or answers to scriptural questions.
It displays an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered Jesus who can converse with guests in over 100 languages.
“It was really an experiment,”
“We wanted to see and understand how people react to an AI Jesus. What would they talk with him about? Would there be interest in talking to him? We’re probably pioneers in this.” Marco Schmid, a theologian with the church, tells The Guardian.
