Fassie died at the age of 39 in Sunninghill Hospital on 9 May 2004 after allegedly overdosing on cocaine.
In 2018, a story broke that a movie about Brenda Fassie was in the works and many rushed to social media to make recommendations of who should play her.
The movie was allegedly halted when Sello “Chicco” Twala said the movie would not be made without his blessing.
In 2018 he told City Press that “Besides my company having the rights, I have never been consulted by anyone. I feel disrespected and undermined, especially being the one who has written and produced almost 75% of the late singer’s songs,” said Twala.
