Louisa Zondo, the mother of late South African rapper Riky Rick is set to honour his life with a new book. Titled Dearest MaRiky: A Mother’s Journey through Grief, Trauma and Healing the book is available for pre-order and will come out at the end of May.
In this book, Louisa Zondo takes the first small steps into facing her grief. She finds herself speaking to her son in a series of letters and gradually unearths the words to express her love for him, and the pain of losing him. In voicing that love, she tells the story of her life and the experiences that shaped her.
Riky Rick died by suicide on February 23, 2022, in Johannesburg following a long battle with depression.
The Riky Rick Foundation
Early this year, the family of late rapper Riky Rik launched the ‘Riky Rick Foundation’ in his memory. The foundation was started to support activism as it ‘relates to the ideals he upheld while he was still living.’
Through his foundation, fans have been able to enjoy the music and fashion festival, Cotton Fest which Riky founded more than three years ago. More announcements are set to be made during the course of the year.
