South African football legend Siphiwe “Shabba” Tshabalala has revealed that he recently completed the Business of Entertainment, Media and Sports (BEMS) programme at the prestigious Harvard Business School (HBS).
In a social media post shared on Sunday, Tshabalala expressed gratitude for what he described as an empowering experience.
Shabba reflects on his Harvard Business School experience
“This chapter of my life is called ‘My Turn’,” he wrote.
“I was empowered at the best learning institution in the world, @harvardhbs, and I’m eternally grateful. I was in a room with great minds from different sectors in entertainment, media and sports. My perspective was empowered. A big thank you to the coolest professor, @anitaelberse.”

Bokang Montjane celebrates her husband’s achievement
His wife, former Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane, congratulated him on the achievement.
“I am so happy and so proud of you and all you continue to achieve. You push yourself harder than anyone I know, you dream bigger than anyone can imagine, and it’s an absolute pleasure and blessing having a front-row seat to witnessing your life,” she wrote.
Bokang, who recently secured the franchise rights for Miss World South Africa, said she is inspired by her husband’s success.
“Your mom must be so proud of you in heaven. She raised one of the finest human beings in the world, one I get to call my husband and the most amazing father to my children. You are an incredible human being.
“You inspire me and push me to be better at everything,” she added.
What is Harvard’s Business of Entertainment, Media and Sports programme?
The BEMS is a four-day executive education programme offered annually by Harvard Business School.
According to HBS, the programme costs $13 500 (approximately R224 000) and explores how digital technology has transformed the entertainment industry.
The programme also equips participants with new approaches to driving revenue and developing successful strategies across film, television, publishing, music and sports.
Professionals encouraged to attend include:
- Talent in the entertainment industry
- Agents, managers and other talent representatives
- Senior and mid-level executives in business development, marketing and strategic planning working within creative enterprises
- Brand managers, promoters, investors and other entertainment industry stakeholders
Another notable South African who has completed the programme is award-winning musician Zakes Bantwini, who celebrated the milestone on Instagram in 2025.
