NPA has reportedly withdrawn DJ Maphorisa and Thuli Phongolo’s assault case.
On Friday morning, DJ Maphorisa was beaming as he exited the Randburg Magistrates’ Court after the assault allegations against him were finally dropped during his fourth court appearance.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), his legal team was successful in getting the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) to agree with his arguments.
DJ Maphorisa, real name Themba Sekowe, was detained in May of this year when Thuli Phongolo, a DJ and actress who was his girlfriend, allegedly suffered an assault in her Sandton home.

NPA spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed that the case had been withdrawn.
“We can confirm that the case against DJ Maphorisa was withdrawn after he lodged representations with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions which were successful. He lodged representations, and upon studying them we then took a decision to withdraw [the charges].
“Remember that the complainant in the matter filed a withdrawal statement. So that meant we had to look into any other areas that we had to prove our case. Upon such consideration, the office of the director of prosecutions took a decision to withdraw the case,” said Mjonondwane
