Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst passed away in January this year after jumping to her death from the 29th floor of a New York apartment.
Her mom, April Sinkins recently joined The Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett-Smith to speak about her daughter’s passing for the first time.
She says although Cheslie appeared happy publicly, she was “reeling from debilitating depression.”
Speaking about their relationship April says Cheslie was “truly her best friend” and was the first person she spoke to when she woke up.
She adds: “There was always something incredible about Cheslie. Her intelligence was there from birth. A lot of her achievements didn’t really surprise the family.”
April says that Cheslie hid her depression and this was not her first suicide attempt. She had sought help and was seeing a professional.
On the morning of her passing, Cheslie left a note in her apartment. “It was very simple, she just said she wanted to leave everything to me,” adds her mother.
She had also sent her mom a text before her death
“Firstly I’m sorry. By the time you get this I won’t be alive anymore. And it makes me even more sad to write because i know it will make you even more sad the most,” shared her mom who only came across the text an hour later.
