Melinda Gates pledged over R18 billion for women’s rights.
Melinda French Gates has announced that she will be giving $1 billion over the next two years to people and organizations that support women and families throughout the world, particularly those that support reproductive rights in the US.
French Gates declared earlier this month that she would be leaving the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Bill Gates gave French Gates $12 billion for her future philanthropy as a condition of her leaving the Gates Foundation.

In a guest post for The New York Times on Tuesday, she expressed her frustration with those who have said that the moment is not right to discuss gender equality throughout the years.
She expressed how excited she was to be able to help women across the world.
“As a young woman, I could never have imagined that one day I would be part of an effort like this. Because I have been given this extraordinary opportunity, I am determined to do everything I can to seize it and to set an agenda that helps other women and girls set theirs, too.”

In the last five years, French Gates has personally committed to two billion dollars. She committed to increasing women’s power and influence for ten years in 2019.
