A new reality show following the lives of three “Shebeen Queens” is on the way.
In South Africa, there has been a long history of shebeens which back in the days were mostly establishments where the working class could unwind, socialize, and escape the oppression of life during the apartheid era.
Shebeen Queens, produced by Barkers Media (How To Manifest A Man), delves into how shebeen queens manage parenthood with keeping their companies surviving in a cutthroat, male-dominated, all-night industry rife with alcohol and laughter.
“Shebeen Queens is a reality show about three self-made female entrepreneurs: Alina Sishange, Big Mama, and Xoliswa Shwayimba. The Showmax Original is an all-access look into the lives of the women behind some of the most infamous shebeens in Soweto – Alina’s Place, Big Mama’s Tavern, and Rama Tavern.” wrote Showmax
