Oh! No, she didn’t! But yes, she did! Shauwn Mkhize, better known as Mamkhize, admitted to collaborating with the “construction mafia” to complete building projects over the past 20-years.
The businesswoman recently attended a KwaZulu-Natal summit, honouring women in construction and shared a different view about the so-called construction mafia than her peers in the industry, who expressed that they are being held “ransom” by people who are extorting them.
Mamkhize’s comments left many social media users shocked by her blatant disregard for illegal dealings, as she referred to the mafia as “business forums.”
While others called for government to intervene and put an end to the monopoly the mafia has on the construction sector, Mamkhize said it’s important to collaborate with the mafia.
“As much as there are construction mafia, it’s very important to collaborate. I’ve been in the industry for 2 decades with the construction mafia involved, but what I do is I come and sit down because it’s a cry for help to them.
You just need to sit down and understand from them, what is it that they need and you collaborate. I’ve collaborated with them, I’ve built with a lot of people that are coming from, you call them construction mafias, I call them business forums.
There’s so much of red tape in the construction industry, you need to have experience. Where are these people going to get experience if they’re not being given the opportunity?”

In July, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) condemned the attempted hit on their Advocate Coreth Naude who was shot 3 times on Thursday night, 18 July.
Adv. Naude was shot while driving into the parking lot of her hotel in uMhlanga, Durban. The hotel is near the Gateway shopping centre.
It is believed Adv. Naude was acting on behalf of SARS in an inquiry into high-profile Durban businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize. Mkhize, the owner of Royal AM Football Club as well as a number of other businesses, including low-cost housing projects and a cleaning company, has faced tax evasion and fraud charges several times.
Despite Mkhize maintaining that her record is clean and that she’s never been charged with fraud, the Durban businesswoman known as MaMkhize allegedly owes SARS millions in unpaid taxes.
