Lebo M celebrates being the first black composer to last 25 years on Broadway.
At the 25th anniversary of the stage production’s staging of the animated version today, Lebohang Morake, also known as Lebo M, has been recognized as the first black African producer on Broadway.
Lebo M, a Grammy-winning producer, composer, and performer, is the voice behind one of The Lion King’s most famous opening phrases in cartoon history: “Naaaantsi ngonyama.”

The theatrical production debuted in 1994 and continues to enthral audiences around.
The 25th Anniversary of the Award-winning Broadway hit musical celebrations took place on the 14 of November on Broadway.
As a part of the festivities, the composer graced the stage with a 30-minute performance.
The event was hosted by South African media personality Anele Mdoda.
